Teaching & Learning Day took place on Monday, February 26 at Newnham Campus. The theme of the day was “Be Open: Share, Reflect, Include.” Sessions included ways to explore open education, reflect on our scholarly practice, and include flexible teaching and learning practices.
The two keynote speakers spoke about open education initiatives occurring locally, provincially and internationally. Kelsey Merkley from Creative Commons Canada was the first keynote and spoke about “Creative Commons: Vital Tools for Collaboration in Education.” In the afternoon, David Porter, CEO of eCampusOntario, spoke about “Making Open the Default: Moving Forward an Agenda for Open Education, Open Pedagogy and Open Practice in our Work.”
Seneca faculty, administrators, and staff presented a variety of sessions in the morning and afternoon, speaking about Collaborative Inquiry, Universal Design, open textbooks, academic integrity, teaching to credential standards, digital assignments, and much more. Vice-President Academic, Laurel Schollen, accompanied by the Educational Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC), conducted consultations for the college’s upcoming Digital Learning Strategy.
For this event, we also welcomed guests from the Teaching and Learning Centres at Durham and Georgian colleges.
Presentation materials have been uploaded to the Teaching & Learning Day website.
The next Teaching & Learning Centre event is Academic Forum on April 30th at Newnham Campus.
