The Digital Transcript

A certified digital transcript is an official electronic version of a student’s academic record which can be shared with third parties such as other post-secondary institutions, government agencies, or employers online instead of a mailed hard copy.

Students require an official transcript for various purposes: licensing requirements for a number of professional associations, like the Law Society and the College of Nurses, renewal of international study permits, transfer credits, employer verification, and permanent resident applications.

As Seneca moves forward with its digital strategy and more self-serve functionality for its students, the digital transcript will provide students with a safe and secure network to share their academic record when they want, literally from anywhere in the world. From an operational prospective, Seneca benefits from having a digital transcript because it eliminates credential fraud, creates operational efficiencies, and supports sustainable practices.

Seneca has partnered with Digitary, a trusted credential issuer, and has made this service available to our students as of September 2, 2020. Digitary supports learner mobility and employability through digital credentialing worldwide. Many of the world’s leading universities and education providers use Digitary to secure their learners’ credentials through the Digitary CORE (Certified Online Record Exchange). Seneca’s digital transcripts will be issued directly through the Digitary platform which will ensure transcript authenticity and ensure that the transcripts are verifiable, secure, and include a cryptographic signature.

Digitary has also been selected by the Association of the Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC) to power the ARUCC National Network. The national network is a collaborative sector-led solution for the secure issuing, exchange, and verification of digital documents and credentials across Canada and internationally.

Through our partnership with Digitary, Seneca will be an early pilot on the Pan Canadian exchange network later this fall.
