You are invited to From Foundations to the Future: The Ontario College Symposium on HyFlex Teaching and Learning on Monday, May 2, 2022.

HyFlex is the course delivery mode that Seneca has branded as “Flexible.” It is more widely known in the higher education community as “HyFlex,” which stands for hybrid-flexible.

This online symposium is a platform for HyFlex enthusiasts, experts, and novices to share success stories and challenges in the HyFlex classroom. Panel speakers and presenters will share observations and evidence-informed practices to help us move forward with intention and manage this shift at the classroom and institutional level. We will also discuss how HyFlex can help us remove learning barriers through intentional and impactful learning experience design and execution.

We are excited to have Dr. Brian Beatty as our keynote speaker. Dr. Beatty is a pioneer of the HyFlex course design model. His keynote presentation, "Engaging Students in Hyflex Courses Supporting Access, Equity, and Quality," will focus on engagement across the three modes of HyFlex delivery.

Participants will have the opportunity in the morning and afternoon to select breakout sessions to attend on a variety of topics: faculty HyFlex success stories, supporting students to be empowered HyFlex learners, accessibility and inclusion in the HyFlex environment, a virtual field trip to a Seneca HyFlex classroom, and building high-quality HyFlex courses.

A panel of HyFlex enthusiasts will discuss the future of assessment and feedback in HyFlex. The panelists are Mel Young from Cambrian College, Dr. Cathy Littlefield from Pierce College, and Dr. Kevin Kelly from San Francisco State University. The panel will be moderated by Linda Facchini Professor in Seneca’s Teaching & Learning Centre.

Dr. Beatty will return in the afternoon for a fireside chat.

As you can see, there are a variety of sessions to participate in and we look forward to seeing you there.
