The Educational Technology Committee (ETC) is a collaborative network of representatives from each of the Ontario Colleges, focused on technology-enhanced teaching and learning practices. They share ideas, best practices, and teaching and learning strategies among all 24 colleges. The Advancing Learning Conference on Educational Technology is the ETC’s annual conference. This year’s conference is hosted by Durham College and features two keynote presentations, interactive sessions and workshops, networking opportunities, and social events for Canadian higher education educators to explore technology-enabled learning and best practices in tech-infused pedagogy.

Educational Technology Committee

The Educational Technology Committee (ETC) is a subcommittee of the Coordinating Committee of Vice-Presidents, Academic (CCVPA), and represents the colleges’ practitioner knowledge-base on matters pertaining to technology enhanced teaching and learning. The ETC is comprised of a network of representatives from each of the Ontario Colleges who are focused on the teaching and learning practices of technology-enabled learning.

Collaboration and sharing are at the core of ETC. With meetings twice per year, the Advancing Learning Conference on Educational Technology, multiple active online straw polls, an active social media and web presence, the ETC facilitates and establishes ongoing and active communication and collaboration between all 24 colleges focusing on sharing ideas, best practices, and teaching and learning strategies related to the use of technologies inside and outside of the classroom.

“Paths to Reinvention” is the theme of the 2023 Advancing Learning Conference which is set to take place May 11 and 12 at Durham College’s Oshawa Campus.

Paths to Reinvention pays tribute to the different ways in which educators and institutions have created and leveraged new approaches to teaching and learning coming out of the pandemic. We will visit the lessons learned from pandemic remote delivery that are here to stay, and explore the resulting reimagined and reinvented approaches to face-to-face, online, and HyFlex teaching and learning.

This year’s conference features two keynote presenters: Amber Mac, President of AmberMac Media Inc., and Brian Aspinall, educator and best-selling author.

On Day 1, Amber Mac opens the conference with a presentation “Relentless Adaptation: Three tech trends accelerating in 2023 and lessons to thrive.” This interactive presentation explores how rapid digitization is essential in all sectors in this new world of accelerating automation.

On Day 2, Brian Aspinall, who is considered one of the brightest STEM innovators in education, will present “Hacking the Classroom.” He is the founder of Code Breaker Inc, an organization whose mission is to engage students and amplify the voices of passionate educators who believe that all students can achieve if given a fair chance.

There is a fabulous schedule of events to take advantage of, including a variety of highly interactive sessions, hands-on workshops, networking, and social events – designed by educators in Canadian higher education just like you! Explore technology-enabled learning, best practices in tech-infused pedagogy, instructional design, HyFlex, accessible course design, and so much more!
