Fundamentals of Online Course Design and Delivery

Effective online teaching begins with structured course design and an appreciation of student learning needs in an online environment. This course combines online learning strategies with hands-on practical exercises to give new and experienced online instructors the necessary foundation to design and deliver a fully online course. Participants will use their own instructional materials to plan and build the fundamental elements of their online courses. Through self-paced modules, demonstrations, interactive activities and discussions, participants will be introduced to online course design, communication, engagement and assessment methods that align with Seneca’s quality framework to ensure best practices in online learning.

Course dates: May 10 to May 28, 2021
This course is delivered as a series of six self-paced asynchronous modules. You can work through the course content at your own pace.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • adapt your course curriculum, lesson plans and instructional content for online delivery.
  • communicate with your students in an online environment using effective student-centered strategies.
  • employ educational technology tools to increase student participation and engagement.
  • design formative and summative online assessments that measure student achievement and promote academic integrity.
  • apply a quality framework to ensure your online course meets Seneca best practices in online learning, including UDL and AODA guidelines.

This course is suitable for instructors who are adapting an existing in-person course to an online delivery mode.

This course is delivered as a series of six self-paced asynchronous modules. You can work through the course content at your own pace.
