The 2012 OSLT Business Entrepreneurship, Sales and Marketing class recently reunited, along with their instructor, Corinne Mariani to reminisce old times and share current professional successes.

Andrea De La Torre, a digital marketing content creator complimented Seneca’s OSLT program saying, “Newcomers need this kind of support in order to understand deeply how Canada works in the workplace environment. Professional students are the key because we can share our own point of view from diverse areas and with the guide of the instructor we can find our own way.”

The OSLT course provided students with a sales and marketing background the skills needed to continue to pursue their career path here in Canada, often taking up whole new business ventures.  One of the greatest strengths of the course is the support network students form while with each other.

Sanaz Farzadfard, a Senior Team Leader at CIBC Estate department said, “Networking is the key point beside hard work. I have made good friends with my peers and instructor during my OSLT course which has helped me through moral support.”  She went on to add, “I would like to thank Corinne for being such an incredible teacher. She taught us how to deal with all our struggles when we were new in Canada and helped us to have a better understanding of Canadian culture. She was so patient and kind and is so wonderful to still stay in touch with us. Her caring and kindness is ongoing even after 10 years.”

Corinne Mariani, an OSLT Instructor with Seneca College said, “It is such a privilege for me to meet and work with so many incredible people who are starting their professional journey here in Canada. This class from 2012 formed a close bond right from the beginning and have continued to keep in touch and support one another over the past ten years.  It was so much fun getting together for the 10-year reunion and hearing all their news!  A special thank you to Adrian Ghisa for organizing this wonderful event!”

To be eligible for these free OSLT courses, students need to be Permanent Residents or Convention Refugees, (not Canadian citizens or Refugee Claimants), have a Canadian Language Benchmark level 6 – 8, and have prior work experience or training in the sector.

IRCC has also opened up the eligibility criteria to include Ukrainian students with at Temporary Residence and their dependents.  These students still need to have a CLB assessment level 6 – 8 as well as relevant work or training experience.
